Experience
I've had a life-long love of learning, and I hope to pass that passion on to my students. Throughout my education, I've been a tutor and also been tutored myself so I know what it feels like to be in either chair. I have experience tutoring elementary, middle and high school age students as well as college. My teaching approach is one where I work with the student's current curriculum to help them become comfortable and excel in their courses. Rather than memorization or drills, I believe that understanding the foundation of the subject material determines success and that's what I'll achieve with each student. I love that every time I tutor, I feel like I'm learning too! To ensure that students have an effective tutoring experience, I like to have sessions at the local library. I'm happy to discuss meeting locations (any library or coffee shop seems to work great!). I have a B.S. in Biology from The George Washington University, and have four years of science research experience. I was also in the GWU Honors Program and conducted independent research in neuroanatomy during college. I also have a Masters from Imperial College London in Innovation, Entrepreneurship & Management. I scored competitively on both the SAT's and the MCATs. I can read, write and speak three languages (English, Malayalam, and French). I've been a life-long writer and reader, so I'll be able to communicate very effectively with my students whatever subject we're covering. Prior to each tutoring session, I'll communicate with the student (and parents when applicable) to discuss what the student would like to work on and any associated homework. I'll also be happy to review previous session's concepts if the student still needs help. Generally, I will use a combination of lecture and discussion techniques (including doing practice questions and flashcards).
